What we are witnessing is not only a geopolitical chess game but also the erosion of international norms that once served as fragile safeguards against full-scale war. China's close analysis of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, reportedly to refine its own potential military action against Taiwan, illustrates how conflicts are no longer isolated — they are interconnected laboratories for authoritarian regimes to learn, adapt, and prepare.

This convergence reminds me of past patterns that preceded global conflict — where miscalculations, unchecked ambition, and the silence of the international community led to tragedy. We are again at that precipice.

My own family has lived through war and exile, and I’ve seen the toll it takes — not just on nations, but on the human soul. We must act urgently and collectively to reinforce diplomatic efforts, uphold international law, and ensure that voices for peace are not drowned out by drums of war.
